The RDSS project was approved by Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) to improve safety and increase the turnaround times related to ship loading of iron ore. Cape Lambert is a major sea port for exporting iron ore from Rio Tinto’s mining operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is 59km East of Karratha and has a handling capacity of 80Mtpa. SIMPEC Pty Ltd have been engaged to supply and install a Remote Draft Survey System utilising cutting edge technology to remotely assess vessel capacity under ship loading conditions. This transition from traditional manual methods of assessment will increase turnaround time for ship-loading activities, resulting in improved safety, and reduced costs to the operator.
SIMPEC will fulfil a key Mechanical, Electrical and Communications contract in the installation of the system and its supporting infrastructure.
