SIMPEC was awarded the Rail Pit Civil works for Cargill. The works form part of Cargill’s canola and cottonseed oil expansion to meet domestic and international demand. To achieve this the existing rail pit needed to be modified for a larger footprint and a new road trench to be constructed for new conveyor system.

Scope of Work

Civil and Structural Construction Work:

  • Bulk /detailed excavation
  • Pile design
  • Temporary works design sheet piles
  • Installation and removal of temp sheet piling
  • Dewatering system
  • Supply and installation of timber piles
  • Supply and installation of screw piles
  • Construction of pile caps
  • Construction culvert / lids in situ (utilising MAXIMO panel formwork system)
  • Sawcut existing structures and tie-ins
  • Road sealing works  
  • Installation of new structural support beams
  • Construction new plinths and pits

This contract was established due to SIMPEC’s unwavering focus on ensuring our customer needs are met and our teams work safely each and every day.

Key Facts

  • Site water table 600mm below existing ground level which required dewatering system to enable works below ground level.  
  • Project impacted by 45 days of inclement weather, SIMPEC mitigated delays (20 days) to achieve Practical Completion 25 days from original completion date.
  • Project achieved Zero MTI/LTI over 8,400 manhours
