The Waste-to-Energy project is located in Kwinana, Western Australia. Waste to Energy is an alternative, renewable energy which will deliver an enhanced and sustainable quality of life for all. By integrating the disposal of waste with the generation of energy, waste to energy plants provide an integrated solution to two of societies greatest challenges: waste disposal and energy supply, with a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to current landfill practices and fossil fuel energy generation. The plant will be able to process 400,000t of waste per year and produce approximately 36MW of baseload power for export to the grid. The plant consists of two gas fired incinerator lines which are designed, fabricated, and supplied by Keppel Seghers.
The bottom ashes are being separated in the ash handling area which includes multiple chutes, conveyors, and other components.
ACCIONA is building the first Waste to Energy plant in Australia and the first in Western Australia, 40 km south of Perth. Kwinana, with a total surface area of 3.5 hectares, will process up to 400,000 tons of waste per year and will have a production capacity of 36 MW, equivalent to the consumption of 50,000 homes. The Waste to Energy plant project was developed by Phoenix Energy and Macquarie Capital. The entire process will involve the creation of up to 800 jobs during construction work, as well as some 60 new permanent jobs for future operation and maintenance.
This contract is part of ACCIONA's long-term commitment to Australia with projects based on cutting-edge technologies that contribute to sustainability and environmental protection
